Hostelling Western Canada |

Today is my last day in the Rocky Mountain area. Left rampart creek at 8:30 in the morning. Sylvian, a French guy, became my passenger. He works in a publishing company. We had some very interesting conversation. He has seen 3 bears in 2 days.
I arrived at Calgary around noontime. Picked up Mr. 'Woody the Crying Wolf', an Indian hitchhiker and his wife. It is the first time I gave ride to Indians. Woody talked a lot. He even offered to introduce me to one of his Chinese friends' daughter, a pharmacist in Calgary.
Calgary has a population of about 700,000. It prospered mostly because of the discovery of oil. As a relatively young city, the city center has quite some modern high-rises. From the top of Calgary Tower, you can get a good view of the city. Another interesting place to visit is the Glenbow museum. Founded by one of the Oilman, Harvi, the museum has a specialized collection of early settlement history of western Canada. I would have stayed longer had my parking meter last longer than 2 hours.
From the museum, I stopped by at a small coffee place downtown. It is a very nice and cozy place. Erin, a girl who works there, happened to have lived in SF for a month.
Leaving Calgary, I drove two hours west to Lake Louis. Arrived at the hostel at 9:00 PM. The place was packed with tourists. I have not had much since noon and am desperate to get some 'serious food'. Only one little pizza place was still open. And their fish and chips are totally nightmare.
